Market Research: Quantitative and Qualitative Research
Quantitative and qualitative research are formal market research methods that measure specific market conditions – surveys, public opinion polls, and the like.
Market Research Studies and Projects: Varied Formats
Exploratory Research: Define or articulate the basic parameters of a problem.
Descriptive Research: Further describe the particular parameters or dynamics of a problem or need – who, what, when, and where.
Explanatory Research: Identify and articulate “how or why” something is happening. For example, “A + B = C” or “X is causing Y.”
Predictive or Casual Research: Identify how to accomplish something. What is the casual relationship that will get us from where we are to where we want to go (from Point A to Point B)?
Examples of completed studies:
- An engineering client wanted to expand into new geographic regions. They came to us for insight into on where to expand. We quantified the market size of regional geographic regions, the relative age of buildings in each region, the competitive forces of existing engineering firms in each region, regulatory conditions around the nation, etc. – resulting in a combined ranking of five metropolitan cities “most ripe” for more engineering competition.
- An association needed national demographics on who their members served. We contacted a representative sampling of client groups in every state and compiled in-depth state-by-state demographics for the national association.
